Annex Incorporated’s Summer Intern Kyler Correria

Final 2 n

The school year is officially in fully swing. With that being said, Annex Incorporated had to sadly say goodbye to our amazing intern, Kyler Correria. Kyler went above and beyond his role all while adding a spirited energy into the mix. We asked Kyler a Q&A about his experience over the summer, and he also shared some fun facts with us as well!
What differentiates Annex Incorporated  from the market, and for you when you were looking for an internship?
Sales and Marketing firms are a dime a dozen in Fort Lauderdale, but when I walked into the Annex Incorporated office for the first time, it instantly stood out. Whether it be the pastel painted walls, pop music blasting in the lobby, the endless number of people emerging from each room as though they were clown cars, or the strong relationships between the employees that was clearly felt, I could tell that I was in for a significant paradigmatic shift from the norm. I encapsulate this by simply referring to the “vibe” of the company. The high energy, fun, and captivating vibe that I felt in the office was entirely unparalleled and I quickly discovered that this was the perfect place for me!
Besides the typical work day at Annex Incorporated, is there anything you especially enjoyed during your internship?
Office tradition is to have “Team Night” every Wednesday. Examples of past team nights have included playing beach volleyball, cultural nights at the office, and pool at a local bar. Team night was  always a fun experience for me and gave me the opportunity to talk to my coworkers outside of the traditional “work” context. It facilitated me to forge strong relationships with everyone I work with, many of which are now good friends that I am sure I will stay in touch with far into the future!

What’s something vital you learned about interviewing and hiring?
Most people think that experience is one of the most important factors considered when hiring, but this plays a very small role in most decisions. The largest factors that I personally look for are simply one’s motivation and work ethic. Both of these are traits that cannot be taught, and my view is that if a candidate comes in very motivated and with a strong work ethic, you can truly teach them anything – the sky is the absolute limit!

What are your professional long and short term goals?
My short term goal is to go start my education at the University of Southern California and be successful in my first semester there.
My long term goal is to graduate at the top of my class and work my way up to the position of CEO of a transnational oil company where I aspire to facilitate a transition from reliance on fossil fuels to renewable energy resources.
